In Oct 2022 the UKHO announced the phasing out of paper charts by late 2026, which would have impacted on OceanWise’s Raster Chart and Raster Chart XL datasets and services. After a period of consultation, the UKHO has now delayed this until at least 2030 although some charts may be withdrawn in the interim period.
In our press release in response to UKHO’s announcement, we stated that we were looking for viable alternatives so we could keep supporting users that required a chart base map e.g. for consultation purposes, but that users should also consider migrating to Marine Themes which is unaffected by UKHO’s announcement. Despite the delay, our original statement still stands, although now we have a little more time to find and effect a solution.
