OceanWise attended the 17th Meso-American and Caribbean Hydrographic Commission (MACHC) hosted by the Brazilian Department of Hydrography and Navigation (DHN) in Belem, Para Region; Brazil from 14th-17th December and also supported pre-MACHC workshops on Hydrographic Capability and Satellite Derived Bathymetry. Over 70 delegates from hydrographic offices, ports, maritime authorities as well as industry attended from across the Caribbean region, Central and North America and Europe. There was significant interest in our Port-Log.net real time web based environmental data sharing and publishing services and Maritime Toolbar GIS and Port ENC Writer software tools. The realisation is growing in the region that in order to safely accommodate ever increasing volumes of shipping in the cruise and cargo sectors; data “really does matter” in the management and mitigation of risk across the region!
