OceanWise Global > News & Projects > Uncategorised > OceanWise now members of OGC and UN-GGIM

At OceanWise we believe that data matters and endeavour to be at the forefront of marine geospatial data developments. We travel the world taking part in important events and conferences which focus on marine data and have been in the Republic of Korea this month (March 2019) participating in some key meetings and discussions. We are delighted to confirm a number of new memberships following this trip:

The Open Geospatial Committee (OGC)

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an international not for profit organisation committed to making quality open standards for the global geospatial community. These standards are made through a consensus process and are freely available for anyone to use to improve sharing of the world’s geospatial data. More details can be found here

UN-GGIM Working Group on Marine Geospatial Information (MGMGI) & UN-GGIM Private Sector Network

Led by United Nations Member States, UN-GGIM aims to address global challenges regarding the use of geospatial information, including in the development agendas, and to serve as a body for global policymaking in the field of geospatial information management. The objective of UN-GGIM is to meet its global Strategic Development Goals (SDG’s) by 2030

A key work program of UN-GGIM is to increase significantly the availability of high-quality, timely and reliable geospatial information including for the marine environment in support of national development priorities and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. More details can be found here

Please talk to us today about your own data management challenges. We offer training courses specifically for professionals working with marine data – in house in the UK, at IMarEST headquarters in London or overseas. The next course at IMarEST will be on June 6th, with more details here
